I was thinking today that it would be really cool to be able to read to Ian a list of the people who are reading this blog and praying for him. So, if you read the blog and pray for Ian, leave a comment on this post with your name and where you're from. I think it would be very encouraging for him as well as for us.
Thank you again for praying.

I met Ian during freshman/sophomore year at LOLC and REC. I was inspired by his faith then; Ian and all of you who post on the site continue to inspire me now. Ian's continual improvement is a testament to his faith and God's ability to use someone to teach others - even in the roughest and hardest times. He is a living example of God's greatness and whether Ian knows it or not, he is still teaching us about God and God's grace.

Hi Mary, Steve, Ian, and family,
I just spoke to Steve on the phone last week and learned about Ian's accident. I was so burdened and overcome with grief and sadness. I have been continually praying for Ian and all of you that God would continue to strengthen you and grant you the "peace that passes all understanding."
I have been consumed with reading all of the blogs written since the accident. I started at October and keep reading from bottom to top to catch me up on all the specific details. (I think I am only up to about March, even though I took a sneak preview of the last blogs to keep me up to speed.) It is amazing how when someone wrote a specific need to pray for, it seemed like in the next blog or so, that prayer was answered. Of course, I have been praying along with all of you through each blog, although these things have already happened. You never know what the Lord can do...we are the ones caught up in time and space...but God is not in the box that we try and put Him in.
I have to let you know that the Lord is so faithful, as you know. As I have been reading the blogs, I have been touched and blessed over and over again. I have been so encouraged in your faithfulness and trust in the Lord. Let there be no doubt that Ian's life and this trial, have deeply touched the lives of so many people and drawn them closer to the Lord and stronger in their faith!!! It has done this for me. Know that Ian's life, and his suffering have not been in vain, but it has accomplished what the Lord set out for it to do.
You will continually be in my thoughts and prayers. I sent out an email to all of our sister churches here to pray for Ian, and he has been added to our intercessors' prayer list.

Love, prayers, and blessings,
Tammy Carter :)

He was in a coma for a couple months, but he has come out of that. He's still got a long way to go, but each day he shows some improvement. I know prayer had a lot to do with that. God is awesome! A friend of mine emailed me a link to your site and I feel it was really just the Lord. Trusting in the sovereignty of God, His mercy and loving kindness, even in difficult situations serves us so to build our faith. You ALL have been such an example of how to not just live by sight, but by faith. I thank God for you Ian and your family and will continue to pray and thank the Lord in advance that he will wake you up. I am a labor and delivery nurse and see miracles every day, and know how nothing is impossible with God, but without faith it is impossible to please God. Well He must be well pleased with all of you. Thank You

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.

37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,

39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

I pray for Ian everyday, this website has been an inspiration to me and has helped me understand the power and grace of our lord even more.

I just read about Ian and through his story and your faithfulness I have been very encouraged!

Lord I lift my brother Ian to you. As you have sustained him for these past years I know you will continue to sustain him. You are a faithful Father to your children, everything is in Your hands and we know that nothing, nothing can separate us from Your love. I pray Lord that You will continue to be glorified through this situation. Through Ian's life, Your name will be praised and others will see your Holiness. I do pray for his family and his girlfriend that you will continue to comfort them, that You will continue to give them strength. Oh Lord let your name be hollowed and let others see Your Son. Please know I continue to pray for Ian's recovery and for everyone for strength to perservere as we wait for God to intervene and bring Ian back.

I came across something that Paul Tripp wrote on his blog (I think everyone has a blog! and yes there is a picture of him with his crazy mustache!) about waiting that I hope will encourage you as it has encouraged me.

"Waiting on God isn't to be viewed as an obstruction in the way of the plan. Waiting is an essential part of the plan. For the child of God, waiting isn't simply about what I'll receive at the end of my wait. No, waiting is much more purposeful, efficient, and practical than that. Waiting is fundamentally about what I'll become as I wait. God is using the wait to do in and through me exactly what he's promised. Through the wait he's changing me. By means of the wait he's altering the fabric of my thoughts and desires. Through the wait he's causing me to see and experience new things about him and his kingdom. And all of this sharpens me, enabling me to be a more useful tool in his redemptive hands."

I love how Paul reminds that everything is in God's hands and that he does not waste anything, including waiting. It is all part of His good and sovereign plan for us in making us a more useful tool for Him.

"Wait for Lord, be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord." - Psalm 27:14

I have been praying and continue to pray. What an awesome God we serve. Most of the time, we hope God will change the circumstances, and sometimes he does, but I am always in awe of when he changes our hearts. I am so grateful for this blog and seeing your trials, tribulations and specific prayer requests.

I don't really know Ian very well, just semi via David in Na stuff. I've been praying for him and you, Larissa. You have helped me to grow in my faith for the power of prayer. Thank you.

And an aside... I had a dream with Ian in it the other night. He was standing across a parking lot just waving at me as me and my hubby passed by. I remember thinking that he was just so funny in his sense of humor and how good it was to see him well again. Can't wait to see this dream happen.

Hi, Ian. It's Elise. I've been reading this blog for almost a year now, and I have been thinking about you. I am a part of Newscenter20 for IUP and you are remembered often. The blogs of your progress is so encouraging to me, and I know God has a plan bigger than anyone could ever dream- God will carry on with your plan, and I believe he has great things in store for you. I know we were never very close or even good friends, but we grew up together and that's something special. I'll keep praying for you:-)

We've been praying for you for over a year. We know your grandparents (the Bergers) and I am your sister's great aunt - and I guess that makes me yours, by adoption (in more ways than one, since we're all adopted into God's family). I just wanted you to remember:
"I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there were none of them." (Psalm 139:14-16)
We're praying for you, Ian!

Ian you are an incredible encouragement to me. My husband, Dann, was in a car accident Aug. 1 of this year and had very similar injuries as yours, the most significant was the TBI. I get discouraged some times thinking this is taking so long to recover from. Thanks for this websight. Thanks for loving God and ministering to others with your life. Ian, Larissa and Murphy family and friends,

Just wanted to leave a note that I continue to check the blog and continue to pray for Ian's full recovery.

I've been reading the posts lately about motivation and I can't imagine what Ian is going through.

Our church is going through the book of Exodus and today Pete carefully drew out truths like drawing water from a deep well. He spoke about God's patience and single vision to complete his promises and his work to free Israel for Himself even when Moses and the people of Israel were reluctant prior to the exodus. Over 10 signs of God's power and justice and while each one must have built up the faith of Moses and the people, still after every sign, until the last, it did not change the Israelites' state.

I just share that to encourage you Ian and everyone that continue to stand firm in your faith. Wait for the Lord to act on your behalf. Each sign of Ian's progress is an evidence of God's grace and patience in the work he's doing in Ian's life. And God will complete his work. He nevers leaves things unfinished.

This quote also comes to mind and has spoken to me this past week:

"Waiting for the Lord isn't about God forgetting you, forsaking you, or being unfaithful to his promises. It's actually God giving you time to consider his glory and to grow stronger in faith. Remember, waiting isn't just about what you're hoping for at the end of the wait, but also about what you'll become as you wait." - Paul Tripp on his blog

Waiting and trusting with you all,

Dear Ian, Larissa and Ian's Family, I pray for you all regularly for stregnth, healing and daily renewal of energy for all of you. Ian for the healing of your body and spirit, Larissa for the stregnth and love you show in your everyday support of Ian and for the family and friends of Ian for all the love, support they show for Ian and their faith in the Lord that there is a reason for this test of faith! The Lord does what is meant to be, sometimes for reasons unknown to us at the time. Be proud of yourselves in passing this utmost test of faith and know there are many of us praying for all of you! Thank you God for sparing Ian and please help him heal as soon as possible. Please keep Larissa in his life and keep your watchful eyes on her and embrace her with your love when she needs it the most as well as Ian's family.

Hey Ian, w’sup dawg? This is Dave. I just want you to know that I believe God will wake you up. I might be wrong, and if I am you can just blame me, but I really sincerely believe that Jesus Christ will call you to get up and be fully healed. He is such a good God, full of compassion and mercy, abounding in steadfast love, and He loves you so much. He really does. He is a sovereign God who has the power to heal fully and completely, and healing is something He loves to do because it demonstrates His glory, His sovereignty, most importantly His love. He is love; its His character. It is more likely that you will get healed than that you won't, and I believe you will.

Ian, know that I've prayed for you approx 99.3% of the nights since the accident, with that fraction of % missed because I am absent minded sometimes and forget -I'm sure you remember that I am a pretty absent minded Persson considering that I would come over to your house and go off and play video games by myself most of the time back in the day. If I remember right, you were the one who usually got us together to do something, like town, or make a movie, or football. Thanks for breaking me from my idols in a fun, memorable way. You helped me see that there is something more to life than staring blankly at a screen all day. You are a good QB.- so I get others that I am with and we pray for you together. I have counted at least twenty people -that is a very conservative estimate and I know it is a lot more than that, but you know that I always was a timid child-, some of whom remember you from when you visited us in Fredericksburg, that have prayed with me for you, and I will continue to seek every opportunity I can to get people around me to pray for you because I want to see you fully healthy here again in Fredericksburg, not just in my dreams -which I have had three-, but in the flesh, so you can joke and I can laugh. God is good to us; your still here, and He loves you so much.

Larissa, it was good to meet you, and it is better to see your faithfulness. The way you have been so faithful to the Murphy family shows me so much of the type of person you are and encourages me in the Lord. When God looks at you He smiles. You really bless Him and Ian.

Murphy fam, you are the best weekend family a young lad could ever have growing up. You have no idea how much you have steered me towards the Lord. I would have been one depressed kid growing up without you all in my life, and that's a fact. I did not have many friends, but the friends I had were the best kind. I also would have never had experienced the joy of Mrs. Murphy's glorious homemade bread. Mmmm says it all. I miss you guys, and the bread, and movie maker on your computer. You were and are a truly Christ centered family, and that is contagious. I feel very privileged to have experienced that, and I praise Christ for it.

You will all always be in my prayers and in my prayer requests even more than 99.3% of the days. I love you all very much, and Christ loves you very very much. He’s got me beat, but in my mind I think we’re pretty close because I have received so much love from Him and from you. Isn't He so good? Isn’t He God? Isn’t God good?

Love, as always

Dave

P.S. Ian, I have one of your shirts still. You left it here a like 3 years ago, and I have been reluctant to give it back because I like it. I hope it’s ok that I hung on to it for a while, but if you want it back I’ll give it back. I must admit though that I did put a few stains on it and faded it some -lucky it’s a dark grey shirt- and I know how you like things clean. I think I may have stretched it out too, though I don't know how considering that I am still as scrawny as ever. I sowwy.

Darkness : Light
by TGG (Sarah M. Bosse)
07.02.08 Midnight
I pray that this poem will bless you as I continue to lift the Murphy family up in prayer. God knows. God knows. TGG

Darkness : Light

The pain

The uncomparable starkness
Of the unmentionable darkness
The unrelenting sharpness
That devides body and soul

The thorn in my flesh
That will give me no rest
And daily puts me to the test
To see if I will sink below

Blacker than night
This darkness I fight
Only One can make it right
And restore the peace I want to know

Here I come
I humbly bow
Before the King of Kings
Right now

Turn my darkness into brightest white
For to You, darkness is as light
Ah what a beautiful sight
To see Your hand working through my night

I know that You have said
You are the lifter of my head
And even on my deathbed
I will find life again

And the thorn that pierced so deeply
And made me gasp and weep - see!
It fits perfectly into the holes of His pierced hands!

For there is no rose that is born
Without the presence of a thorn
Though my body may be worn
My spirit will surely be reborn

So Lord be glorified this way
As you make night shine bright as day
And give strength to help me today
Keep following You in Your way

One day this terrifying sadness
Will be replaced with rapturous gladness
And this situation I thought madness
Will proclaim His handiwork

He brings rivers into the wilderness
Cool waters that dispell the dryness
I come quickly without shyness
To reap of His lovingkindness

From the Word of the Lord:

Isaiah 35
3 Strengthen the weak hands,
and make firm the feeble knees.
4 Say to those who have an anxious heart,
“Be strong; fear not!
Behold, your God
will come with vengeance,
with the recompense of God.
He will come and save you.”

5 Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened,
and the ears of the deaf unstopped;
6 then shall the lame man leap like a deer,
and the tongue of the mute sing for joy.
For waters break forth in the wilderness,
and streams in the desert;
7 the burning sand shall become a pool,
and the thirsty ground springs of water;
in the haunt of jackals, where they lie down,
the grass shall become reeds and rushes.
