Pudding

Those of us who know Ian know that he can sing well, and he has sung on Mark's scripture song series called, Hide the Word. I was listening to this Scripture put to song (2 Cor 4:17-18): "For this slight momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal." Ian sang that song. I hope today that he remembers that Scripture and is being comforted by it. This "slight momentary affliction" he's experiencing is preparing something incredible for the future.

He was eating pudding tonight. He was cleared to start eating things with the consistency of honey or liquids thickened to that consistency, so tonight he got pudding. There's a delay before he swallows, but we've been told that the delay is to be expected. It's fairly typical for someone in his condition. Improvement for him will include a quicker response time in his swallowing, but he's improved to this point already where he's actually swallowing. He wasn't even doing that before.

Someone asked about his "rating" on the coma scale. Just to be clear, he is still in a coma. The scales are used just for discussion and provide a framework for treatment, but giving him another rating on the scale isn't like graduating him from first grade to second grade. There just isn't a clear break like that, and it's a matter of opinion as to where he falls on the scale. And, at this point, we're less concerned about his place on the scale and more concerned with evidence of progress. That's why we talk less now about his place on the scale.

Thank you for praying for Ian.

Steve

When people ask me how Ian's doing and where he is on that "scale" i really don't know what to say either...
So i try to just explain his progress and encourage them to check out the blog for updates..
AND PRAY!

God is doing so, so, so much and it lifts my spirit every day to be reminded of His constant faithfulness in all of this. Simply scrolling down to "October" on this blog testifies of the wonders of His mercies. I believe all that He has done is confirmation that it is His will to heal Ian... I really do believe it will happen. Therefore, this is what I hold onto:

"Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked Him."1Jn.5:14/15

Let us never doubt. Let us believe in what we can not see...in the God who walks on waves and raises dead men. Surely, we shall never search him out nor comprehend his ways. He hears our prayers. Believe it. And keep praying for Ian!

I barely know you, but we have met at creation a while back thru Joe, Jimmy , or maybee Alec or Josh Brown. Not sure. I was a new christian being raised in a church of the frozen chozen. I learned what it means to worship with passion and love for jesus through you and these young men that summer and I haven't been able to stop. This year at agape farm I will have several people on my mind that I will bring before the lord, you Ian will be one of them. Keep teachin' bro !

You're not going to give Ian that pudding with the "fish eyes" in it (tapioca) are you?
:-)
It is just SUCH a faith builder to read of Ian's progress! Thank you so much for keeping us up to date.

Still praying!

THanks Steve, the blog was informative, encouraging and faith building. I am sure it takes no small effort to do that in light of what Ian and your family is going through. While we are "here" I don't know if it will truly seem like a momentary affliction, but in eternity .... then we will "know in full". Praying for the "here" and now. GLA

Hello Murphys and Larissa,

I just wanted to stop by and share a few things with you in the hopes that it will bring encouragement to all. I am a single mom with two sons, ages 15 and 10, still at home. My older two children are out of the house. Today, the Lord put it on my heart to share a few things from your blog with my two younger boys. I have been reading this blog ever since Carolyn McCulley posted it on her blog, and daily, I look to find what the Lord has been doing in Ian's and in all of your lives.

Today, I went to the beginning to tell my sons what happened; and I brought them up to speed to present day. We discussed a few things that the Lord Himself has been teaching all of you, and they seemed to grasp so much truth in the things I was able to convey to them.

I want you all to know that God IS working all of this out for His glory and for your (and our) good. Nothing is ever wasted when He is glorified, even in the most difficult of times.

The things that you all chronicle on this blog bring spiritual truths in such a real, tangible way. Every single day, I am touched by the things you share. I am in awe of such a magnificent Father, who, knowing our weak and beggarly frames, will still choose to use us in order to bring the depth of His love to His children.

Just as we, mere humans, are touched by the things which you all are experiencing, our great High Priest is also touched with the feelings of your infirmities, and He Himself intercedes.

I am convinced that God is bringing Ian to a place of total healing and restoration, and that in the process, He is using this situation to bring not only great glory to Himself, but also incredible encouragement and strength to those who read and are moved to prayer.

It may never be known to Ian, to you, to Larissa, to all involved, on this side of heaven, how greatly impacted our lives have been as a result of Ian's accident, but one day, when we are in the presence of the Holy One forever, you may see just how beautifully the Lord took this incident and turned it around for good.

Thank you for your continued postings as we follow along with you on Ian's journey. We somehow feel that we are on it with you; and yes, we truly are, as we are moved to pray for him and you all very often.

Stand firm, hold fast, and know that we all love you and pray for you, and we are anxiously awaiting the day when Ian stands up fully healed, and declares, "What an awesome thing that the Lord has done! To Him be all the glory!"

In Christ,
Linda and Family in Columbus, GA

me too...

just wanted to say that just as "iron sharpen iron", so the folks at this blog(writers and commenters) and Carolyn help me to know more about following Him through the challenging times and good times.

I'm thankful for the medium of blogs to instruct and encourage and motivate to pray.
