You and your family are in my prayers and I hope that God has given you some break in the pain you have had to go through. It s...Dear Steve, we love your family so dearly.

It seems like ages since those joyful hours we spent together, talking and rejoicing over the addition of a new little one, a girl, in our LR home. Jeannette and I will always remember those precious times and nights we had together (though I know you have wanted to forget the few that were the result of us being so kind to give you the flu). And then later, together, on our sabbatical in Indiana, PA. How fun it was to sit in your backyard or just fellowship together. You were so kind to set up stuff and ensure we had a great and productive time together. It was so encouraging and amazing to us that after such a short time, we felt like we'd known you all our lives and Jeannette and I were dreaming of ways we could spend our lives together. I still periodically think about what it would have been like to have a church together or to minister full-time together. I really can't have more pleasant thoughts. You guys are such a delight and a joy and light to us. When we think of you, we think of all that is good about God...all that is sweet. We miss you and know with all our hearts, that if we were to see you or spend a few minutes over coffee or a glass of wine together, we'd pick right up where we left off. Our lives are all so short and time is so precious. We simply don't realize how one day folds into the next. And we're never sure what's around the corner. When we love people dearly, as we do you guys, our hearts yearn to take away your pain, sorrow, suffering. And yet, God, who is perfect and who loves us perfectly, does not, often. So just as our bodies are wanting and imperfect and needing to be transformed, so too, our thoughts and ideas of Him. And maybe, this is a big part of what He wants from all of us. I think of the end of Psalm 17, "As for me, I shall behold Thy face in righteousness, I shall be satisfied with Thy likeness when I awake." Whether here or in that life to come, it's just so about Him. Can I be satisfied with Him? Just Him alone? I still try and I still fall miserably short. And I know you would deny it, but I think you are closer to Him than me in more ways than one. And the most important, is this latter way. And maybe, if God doesn't choose to heal you, it's because you've become such a good friend to Him and He's ready for you now. Jeannette asked me what would I do if I thought I had a year to live. I don't know...I really don't know anything. But I do know I love you brother. And we love you Mary. Both of us and our kids send all of our love to you and to the kids as well.

Your most favorite family in Italy, the Walti'sLee and Jeannettehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07096312996689396574noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35753836.post-32428746212913667652009-09-07T13:48:42.047-04:002009-09-07T13:48:42.047-04:00Thanking Jesus for your Christ-centered, Gospel-ce...Thanking Jesus for your Christ-centered, Gospel-centered attitude, Steve.
Yes, I'm trusting totally in God's solution for my death through the blood of His only Son, my only hope, Jesus Christ.
Through reading your posts it seems you are an incurable God lover, and I thank Him for your example.
Honored to claim you as a brother in Christ even though we have never met, yet.
Praying for you, Mary and your family as He brings you to mind throughout my day.
Wendy in MarylandAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35753836.post-62916902666396833992009-09-03T13:10:22.147-04:002009-09-03T13:10:22.147-04:00We certainly understand your feelings........as ou...We certainly understand your feelings........as our son-in-law was given a kidney cancer diagnosis of 6 months to live, but lived nearly 4 years but with much suffering. The Lord is honored and glorified through your heart towards Him.

Jer 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. 12 Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. 13 You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you, declares the Lord, and I will restore your fortunes and gather you..."

How great the truth in this passage is for Steve and His family right now! The Lord has given Steve a hope and a future that transcends the current (and very real!) reality of his suffering.

And how great this truth is for all who would die to self and live to Christ! The promise isn't just for a "super-spiritual Christian" who seems to do all the "right" things. No, this promise is for all who come to the Lord, seeking Him in humility and repentance, recognizing that they cannot do all the "right" things in "their own" strength. The Lord drew Israel back to Himself and the Lord desires to draw us to Himself again through the midst of trials and suffering. The Lord's desire to reveal Himself is great! He dedicates two and a half verses to showing His desire to reveal Himself just in this passage alone. "Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. 13 You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you declares the Lord..."

How great and how gracious and merciful is our God! Seek Him now, while He may be found, and find in Him your soul's rest and reward!

Sarah M.
