we finally had time to talk, after a busy few days. I admitted to Ian some temptations that I've been facing that, if grown, could affect him and our marriage.
"Tell me what I can do to help you," he spoke, when my guts were spilled.
I questioned him on why that response, instead of surprise or frustration or concern. I asked why he didn't turn it back onto himself, and how those temptations affect him.
"Because it's a holy God that you're up against."
He gets it. So simply and clearly and beautifully. He turned my sin directly to the gospel and to how my sins are not primarily against Ian or our marriage but a holy God.
Stunned, because I had been carrying weight of the frustrations of my ugly heart, I looked at him in refreshed gratefulness. What a gift he is to me. He is a gift to my soul.

He can teach us all so much....your Ian is truly a gift.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful. Such an encouraging picture of marriage. I'm so happy for you Larissa & so grateful to God for His provision.

Wow.
ReplyDelete"Because it's a holy God that you're up against."
That's a perspective I'll carry with me, hopefully forever.
Thanks for sharing.
Wise beyond his years and also such a wonderful husband...I am sorry you are facing temptation and hope that it passes.
ReplyDeleteSuch wisdom!
ReplyDeleteI've heard it said that we "wrong" another person, but we "sin" against God...a much larger offense.
Still Praying.

Praying for you both. Weigh it all out with God, there is nothing He won't provide. Move forward in His light.
ReplyDeleteBlessing upon you Larissa,
Lindsay
What a holy spirit filled response provided just for you. It would be awesome for you to see and enjoy physical progress within your husband as the years pass. But if that doesn't happen this life is but a season and God certainly has you two in the palm of his hand. Your sacrifice is valuable Larissa and you cannot continue to do it unless you allow yourself to stay in an attitude of surrender and remembering where you are storing up treasure! Also- I am just some random person that stumbled upon your story and it has affected me whenever I remember it. I even showed your video to a bunch of troubled young women and they responded with such curiosity and wanted me to read them all your blogs. Praying we finish this race well.
ReplyDeleteI am in awe, not only of Ian's response, but also of your courage to "spill your guts."
ReplyDeletePraying for you BOTH!

ReplyDeleteBe strong, this too shall pass. I admire what God is doing through your life.
ReplyDeleteHe sure does get it...my oh my, what insight this man has gained. He surely is a gift from God.
ReplyDeleteLove your blog,

God is So beautiful, your marriage magnifies the fellowship our Triune God shares among Father, Spirit, and Son. Ian and his courage as head and you as the beloved. May the God of encouragement supply you with the strength to serve Ian everyday.

...agreeing with Lindsay! "But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

Dear sister in Christ,
ReplyDeleteI am overwhelmed by what God is teaching me as I dwell upon your story--your life--and consider the beauty that God has made from ashes. Thank you for being so transparent in your blog. You are both wise beyond your years, and I pray that God gives you His peace, love and hand of protection in abundance. You have helped me to see new perspectives as I consider the struggles I have with ungratefulness in my own new marriage. Thank you! Bless you both!
